MediNatura recalls 19 lots of Clearlife, Reboost sprays

This week’s version of Microbial Contamination Monday comes from MediNatura, which recalled 19 lots of two nasal sprays, a throat spray and a cough syrup for a “possible microbial contamination” in the water-based products.

Clearlife Nasal Spray, Reboost Nasal Spray, Reboost Throat Spray, each in 20 ml bottles, and 125 ml bottles of Reboost Cough Syrup are involved in Monday’s recall.

“Administration or use of drug products with microbial contamination, could potentially result in increased infections that may require medical intervention,” MediNatura’s website recall notice says. “To date, MediNatura has not received any reports of illness or injury.”

This follows the Valeant Pharmaceuticals recall of Ocean Saline Nasal Spray announced on Sept. 24 and the Cortaid recall of cream and spray announced on Sept. 17, each for the same reason. Back in August, Product Quest Manufacturing made a gargantuan recall of nasal sprays sold as name brands and as the house brands for Walgreens, CVS, Meijer, Dollar General, Rexall, Family Dollar, Rite-Aid and Harmon.

Affected lots in this recall are:

Clearlife Nasal Spray, lot Nos. 110716; 021417; 041917; and 111617.

Reboost Nasal Spray, lot Nos. 100616; 021517; 042017; and 100517.

Reboost Throat Spray, lot Nos. 080317; 100417; 120717; 011018; and 022018.

Reboost Cough Syrup, lot Nos. 101716; 011017; 021617; 092117; 120617; and 022718.

“The production lots of these products were made by a third-party supplier who no longer manufactures for MediNatura,” the company website’s recall notice says. “Several months ago, we transferred the manufacture of our nasal sprays and throat sprays to another facility that has a history of favorable FDA inspections. The cough syrup is discontinued.”

MediNatura didn’t identify the third party supplier and hasn’t returned a phone call from the Miami Herald.

Those with any of the above products can return them to the store of purchase for full refund or return them to MediNatura after completing this recall form. Anyone with questions can call 1-800-920-9203, Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Eastern time or email
